Intriguing Winchester Model 1866 Brass Frame “Yellow Boy” Saddle Ring Carbine

An Intriguing Winchester Model 1866 Brass Frame “Yellow Boy” Saddle Ring Carbine Serial 103xxx DS For 1872.

Standard specifications: 20 inch round barrel. Walnut with 4 tacks of uncertain origin. Brass rifle butt with rod trap. Barrel address partially visible.

Walnut butt stamped on right side, “GENERAL MARIANO ESCOBEDO” (1826-1902). Commander of the Army of Mexico under President Benito Pablo Juarez.

Condition overall rates good, Buttstock possibly a period replacement. Corrosion on lever and hammer. Brass frame is good overall. Action works well and bore is fair to good. Converted to centerfire as would be expected for a South of the Border “Yellow Boy”.

Overall an attractive example of this most sought after true Western Winchester with an interesting possible association with Mexico’s most important general serving under Benitio Juarez.
