A Very Fine Civil War Presentation Sword With Magnificent Damascus Steel Blade By W. Clauberg, Solingen And Beautiful Etched And Gilt Panels Circa 1864.
35 inch long saber blade. Left gilt panel with oversized U.S. and “WE NEVER SURRENDER”. The right gilt panel with large spread American eagle and “E PLURIBUS UNUM”. The blade in very fine condition overall with lovely intricate Damascus pattern and only very minor staining near point.
The gilding and etching are pristine. Cast and chased elaborate hilt with solid brass grip (traces of silver remaining), the hilt with some original gilding. Scabbard with all its original plating and fine cast and chased chape and locket with two repousse hangers. (minor door pinches).
This presentation sword has one of the finest Civil War sword blades we have seen and is a joy to behold.
