A Superior And Well Marked Entirely Original Cromwellian English Civil War Period 1650 “Lobster Tail” Helmet.
Finely formed two piece skull with low comb. Original riveted brim deeply struck with an armorer’s mark. Both line engraved earflaps are original (old leather re-attached). One piece “lobster tail)” imitating three lames struck three times with acceptance and armorer’s marks.
Original plume holder. Original nasal bar. Exterior is cleaned gray patina. Intertrior shows numerous period marks from the armorer’s hammer. Good weight of 3.3 pounds. A far better than average example of this quintessential English Civil War helmet. Entirely original and not one of the ubiquitous fakes that have flooded the collector’s market.
