A Very Fine Early Civil War Issue Breechloading Second Model Maynard Percussion Cavalry Carbine Serial Number 95xx.
20 inch round barrel. 50 caliber. Approximately 20,200 manufactured. Several Union cavalry regiments were armed with the Maynard including the 9th and 11th Indiana and the 11th Tennessee.
Condition overall is NRA excellent with 95% original bluing on the barrel, 95% casehardening on the action including hammer and lever, the buttplate patinated as is invariably the case with these carbines, The wood is pristine with beautiful open grain walnut and razor sharp military inspector’s cartouches “GWL” and “JM” and only a few negligible dents on right side.
Perfect screws with most original blue. Mint mirror bore likely unfired. Action like a new carbine. This is a very nice Maynard with a four digit serial number.
