A Very Rare And Unusual Cased Pair Of English Brass Barrel, Brass Lock, Brass Pan, Silver Wire Inlaid Flintlock Holster Pistols By Henry Thomas, Birmingham. (1737-1785)
1773-1776 On Cherry Street, 1780 On Colmore Row. 1783-1811 On Newhall Street. Circa 1776.
8 and 3/4 inch round. smoothbore, barrels with short top flat, Birmingham gunmaker’s proofs. .65 caliber. Stepped, double bolted locks, lightly engraved at tail, signed “THOMAS”. Bridles frizzens, engraved gooseneck cocks, all brass furniture comprising elegant, engraved skeletonized sideplate, acorn finial triggerguard, engraved spurred buttcaps, brass ramrod pipes, horn tipped ramrods.
Fine figured walnut full stocks (one with tight crack on left of stock). Lovely silver wire inlay decorating the area behind the breech tang and 100% intact. Pistols are in good overall condition especially for Revolutionary War pistols of this type with only minor wear to butt engraving from polishing.
What is really rare and almost never seen is that these pistols are cased in an original fine condition period oak case with original green baize lining in excellent condition. Pistols fit properly. Accessories include original brass tipped walnut rod, bullet mold, oil bottle, brass jag and even the original key. Actions are good on both half and full cock.
A very showy and well made pair of English flintlock brass lock and barrel pistols. 15 inches overall.
