A Beautiful Civil War Palmer Breechloading Bolt Action Cavalry Carbine.

20 inch round barrel. Caliber 50 rimfire. The Palmer is the first bolt action cartridge firearm accepted for U.S. military issue. With only 1001 manufactured Palmer carbines are scarce and desirable. The present carbine dated 1865 is a superb example.

The barrel retains 98% of its original lacquer brown finish. The bolt retains all of its dark blue. The lock shows 98% mottled color casehardening. Hammer with all its case color. The hammer screw with slight damage to slot. Triggerguard and barrel band have all their vivid casehardening with rainbow color. Buttplate has smooth dark fading blue.

The fine dark walnut stock with nearly all the original desirable ‘raised’ grain. One storage dent behind the saddle ring and extremely minor chip forward of the sling bar. The action is like new and the bore is minty. Faint military inspector’s cartouche.

This is a very close to mint Civil War carbine that will delight the advanced Civil War collector.
