An Truly Exceptional Napoleonic Era Prussian Cavalry Hussar Officer’s Saber With Splendid Gilded Lion Pommel Hilt And Fire Blued And Gilt Blade.
The 35 inch long blade of exquisite quality with double fullers running the full length of the blade. Small clipped point characteristic of the finer officer’s saber blades of this era. 14 and 1/4 inch fire blued and gilt panel of trophies of arms. Signed at ricasso on right “SCHIMMELBUSCHE IN SOLINGEN”.
Splendid fire gilded lion head pommel three branch hilt with cast and chased langets. Ebony wood grip wrapped with triple strand twisted copper wire. Blade in near pristine condition with bright fire gilding and gold and much original polish. Hilt with 80%+ bright gilding and very little wear.
This lovely saber by one of Germany’s premiere makers of the Napoleonic era has its original steel scabbard in good condition with one significant ‘door’ pinch. Old museum inventory number near throat “WS-7298”. 41 and 1/2 inches long out of scabbard.
A very fine Napoleonic saber that will appeal to the advanced collector of sabers.
