A Splendid And Early Full Silver Mounted English Flintlock Holster Pistol By The Justly Renowned Huguenot Maker Henry Delaney (1715 Longacre, Holborn).

9 inch swamped, smoothbore barrel with engraved short top flat signed “LONDINI” rear sighting rib, finely engraved barrel tang with engraved screw. Very early George the First lock fully engraved in the English vine scroll boldly signed “H. DELANEY”. Engraved cock, border engraved molded frizzen, original engraved top jaw.

The barrel with gold blow out plug and London gunmaker’s proofs. Full silver mounts comprising engraved triggerguard with acanthus finial, pierced openwork sideplate of engraved leafy design, two turned ramrod pipes, ivory tipped ramrod, engraved stirrup buttcap with molded panel and well rendered grotesque mask pommel cap.

Elegant acanthus thumbpiece, the entire grip with very fine quality silver wire as only found this early in the finest English flintlock pistols by the best makers like Barbar, Monlong, and Gorgo who like Delaney were immigre Huguenot’s.

The highly figured walnut fullstock with lovely relief shell carving behind barrel tang. This wonderful best quality George I flintlock is in remarkably good condition throughout. The action is perfection on both half and full cock. Had it been available at the time this pistol by Delaney would have found its way into the collection of Clay P. Bedford and into his exhibition of his English firearms at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. 15 and 1/2 inches overall.
