Rare & Desirable Original British Short Land Pattern 2nd Model Brown Bess Flintlock Musket By Ketland - York Castle Circa 1760

A Rare And Desirable Original British Short Land Pattern (2nd Model Brown Bess) Flintlock Musket Complete With Bayonet By “KETLAND & CO” The stock branded “Y & C 145" for York Castle, circa 1760.  42 inch round barrel. 75 caliber. The barrel with smooth patina and gunmaker’s proofs.

Bolted lock with engraved gooseneck cock signed in script “Ketland & Co”. Brass regulation furniture. The walnut fullstock with intact comb. Old pinned repair just behind the rear ramrod pipe. Wedge fastened barrel. Stock with expected dents and marks exhibits a rich centuries old patina that is most attractive. Ramrod is an old replacement.

Bore rates good and action is excellent on both half and full cock.

Original triangular bayonet accompanies this rare musket. Though not strictly a Revolutionary War used 2nd Model Bess as it spent its time with the York Castle militia it is an issue British Rev War period military musket.
