An Extremely Rare Matched Pair Of Engraved Steel Inlaid Spanish Ripoll Miquelet Belt Pistols Signed ‘CORBE’ On The Frizzens Circa 1710.
7 inch ‘Spanish’ form barrels with cannon muzzles, fluted for half of their length with raised rib. .50 caliber. The barrels unmarked.
Beautiful patilla locks with engraved hammers and faceted frizzen retainers. The frizzens stamped with ‘CORBE’ signature. Engraved steel side plates with 7 and 1/2 inch steel belt hooks. Long engraved steel fore-end caps. Spurred trigger guards. Ball butt. The walnut stocks entirely encased in engraved steel throughout their length.
The pistols with expected wear but general fine condition. Steel ramrods are original to the pistols. Steel inlaid Ripoll pistols are so rare that the last similar pair was sold by Butterfield & Butterfield in October of 1996 as lot 3045 from the Smithsonian's deaccession of the Charles Bremner Hogg Jackson Collection. Actions are untested due to the incredibly strong mainsprings of miquelet locks. 11 and 1/2 inches overall.
It may be another thirty years before another pair is available.
