A Rare And Desirable Ottoman Sultan Palace Guard Dagger Circa 1750 With Silver Scabbard And Splendid Chiseled Blade Of The Finest Wootz Damascus.
12 and 1/2 inch double edged spear shape blade with relief chiseled panel extending nearly its full length. These blades are of superb quality and always found in these rare daggers.
Silver bound grip panels filled with small carved corals bezel set. Two expanded silver blossoms decorate the grip panels.
Wood scabbard encased in high relief silver with upper decorative panel reminiscent of Ottoman yataghans. Fine condition overall. Dagger is 18 inches overall.
These daggers are from a series for Ottoman palace wear and some with more decorative hilts as befitted the wearer but always with nearly identical beautifully chiseled blades of very fine wootz Damascus. They are quite early and rarely offered for sale.
