A Truly Splendid Fully Silver Mounted Ottoman Turkish Kilij With Superb Wootz Black Damascus Blade Deeply Chiseled At Forte On Both Sides Framing Magnificent Panels Of The Finest Gold Damascened Calligraphy Circa 1780.
The deeply curved 27 and 1/2 inch kilij blade with chiseled and gilt yelman is 1 and 7/8th inches broad and 1 and 3/4 inches at forte. The splendid gold panels are 2 and 1/2 inches. The deeply chiseled frames feature strap work all on a gold Damascene ground. The spine is gold Damascened.
The classic cross guard is fine silver with punch work decoration and expanded blossom finials. Original fine black Morocco leather covered wood scabbard with only one very minor loss. Large chape, locket, and silver hangers decorated with relief punch work ensuite with the crossguard.
Original blonde horn grip panels relief carved with leaves and central blossom.
The beauty and quality of the blade in this kilij cannot be surpassed in the current market. The wonderful mounts are only icing on the cake of this finest of our Ottoman swords.
