A Very Fine And Rare Early 17th Century French Chiseled Cup Hilt Rapier With Extraordinary Provenance From The Renowned 19th Century Collection Of Charles Maurice Camille Talleyrand-Perigord, 4th Duke of Dino 2nd Marquis de Talleyrand And Later Deaccessioned In October Of 1956 By The Metropolitan Museum Of Art As Lot 128 And Illustrated In Catalog By Parke-Bernet Galleries.

44 inch beautiful slender double edged grooved rapier blade. Lobed cup guard intricately chiseled and wrought with leafy scrolls. Branch and pommel decorated ensuite. Extraordinarily beautiful elaborately wire wrapped wood grip. This magnificent rapier is homogenous.

The opportunity to acquire such an incredibly well provenanced 17th century rapier is unique. This exact rapier is recorded in Baron C.A. de Cosson’s Le Cabinet a’Armes de Duc de Dino. 52 and 1/2 inches overall. Condition is excellent throughout. The original Parke-Bernet 1956 catalog will be included with this superb rapier.
