A Fine And Well Mounted Long Certificated Shin Shinto Japanese Samurai Sword Katana Attributed To Kunikane Circa 1840.

The 29 inch hira tsukuri blade with complex suguha midare hamon and beautiful itame hada in full old sashi-komi polish with all details visible and no kizu. Ubu nakago with one mekugi ana. Excellent kissaki. Copper habaki.

Fine copper fuchi kashira decorated in relief with rats finely detailed with gold eyes. Matching shakudo and gold floral menuki. Black tukamakie. Black ishime lacquer saya in excellent condition with black horn kojiri, koiguchi and kurikata. Beautiful round iron tsuba with mounted samurai, the horse’s eyes picked out in gold.

This well mounted, beautifully polished long katana though unsigned is accompanied by an old NBTHK green paper from an era when an NBTHK green paper was rarely awarded. This katana is ready to enter a good collection or make a very fine first acquisition for the beginner. It requires no restoration and is beautiful as it is.
