A Superb Napoleonic Era French Naval Officer’s Dirk With Magnificent Blue And Gilt Blade And Bright Fire Gilded Mounts Circa 1805.
14 and 7/8th inch curved blade with wide fuller, Niter blued panel with bright gold engraved panels one, a sun in splendor, another depicting a naked man in a landscape, and a trophy of arms, The blue and gold still brilliant, Some staining mostly on the left side of the blade toward the point.
Fire gilt mounts with recurving quillion block cast with shells and finely detailed anchor in center. Finely checkered ebony grip. The pommel cast and chased as a winged chariot with lion finial, (Chain absent). Mounts retain nearly all their lovely gilt finish.
This superb dirk comes in its original leather sheath with gilded chape, locket and single hanger. A true work of the sword maker’s art, As good as one of these gets.
