A Fine Silver Mounted Mid 18th Century English Flintlock Smoothbore Turnoff Barrel Breechloading Pistol By John Smith Circa 1743.

7 inch smoothbore barrel with cannon muzzle gunmakers proofs and “LONDON” as well as rudimentary engraving at breech. 60 caliber bore. Engraved breech tang. Single bolted lock with swan neck cock. All lock small parts appear to be original to the piece.

Polished clean condition to steel parts. Lock signed “I SMITH”. Steel triggerguard with spear leaf finial. Beautiful silver sideplate cast and chased with trophy of arms. Well executed cast and chased silver grotesque mask buttcap. Vacant silver thumb piece. Figured walnut stock with finely carved crisp shell design behind the tang. Wood is exceptionally crisp.

A very handsome turn off flintlock mistakenly referred to as a “Queen Ann”. Note: The barrel does not screw off. 12 and 1/4 inches overall.
