A Most Impressive And Elaborate Presentation Quality American Federal Period Heavy Cavalry Officer’s Saber Circa 1812.
The 33 inch blade with broad fuller extending to the point is etched for 2/3rds of its length with trophies of arms and stands of flags all on a punched ground. Etching is clear throughout. The brass hilt of Napoleonic French form with long lancets and faceted pommel fluted at apex. Finely checkered wood grip in fine condition.
The brass scabbard with relief decoration throughout in panels and heavily cast and chased hanger mounts. The long chape cast and chased in relief with shields and foliage. Between the hanger mounts is a very fine American eagle in relief with wings outstretched. The sword with period gold bullion sword knot. The scabbard with a few minor dents otherwise fine condition,
This is a really attractive early American cavalry saber patterned after the swords carried by high ranking Napoleonic cavalry officer’s and will be a fine addition to any collection of American sabers.
