A Fine And Very Rare Indian Talwar (Tulwar) With Beautiful Gold Damascened Hilt And All Steel Wootz Damascus Scabbard Circa 1850.
27 and 1/2 inch blade with wide single fuller extending for 3/4’s of its length. The hilt of classic talwar form covered entirely with fine gold Damascene of well executed expanded blossoms. The Damascening nearly entirely intact throughout and only extremely minor wear on the rim of the disk pommel.
The unique steel scabbard of wootz Damascus bordered throughout its length on obverse with long narrow panels of gold Damascening of interlocking meander. The pierced chape decorated ensuite. The gold in excellent condition throughout. The reverse with matching panels of silver (well worn from carry). Staining to the wootz.
A rare and unique sword by a genuine mid 19th century Indian artist.
