An Extremely Fine Pair Of Best Quality Large Bore English Flintlock Overcoat Pistols By William Bartlett Hambling Founder Of The Hambling Dynasty Of Gunmakers Circa 1814.
4 inch smoothbore barrels with wide dished sighting groove, silver foresight, platinum bands at breech, retaining nearly all of their beautiful Damascus brown finish. Finely engraved breech tangs. .62 caliber. Bolted engraved locks with rainproof teacup pans. Roller bearing frizzens signed "HAMBLING".
All small parts original, frizzen springs with some niter blue, engraved sophisticated cocks, platinum blowout plugs, all in fine original condition. Engraved steel triggerguards with well executed pineapple finials retaining some original peacock blue (fading). Silver thumb pieces engraved with a signed griffin holding a leafy branch aloft.
Highly figured walnut fullstocks with finely checkered flattened butts. Steel fore-end caps. Both of these excellent pistols retain their original brass tipped ramrods with worms. Bores are excellent to mint and appear unfired. Actions are like new.
These are the equal in quality of Mortimer, Egg, Manton or any of the great London gunmakers. 9 inches overall. They are simply lovely.
