A Scarce And Desirable English Double Barrel Brass Frame Turn Off Barrel Flintlock Breechloading Carriage Pistol By “MEWIS & CO” CIRCA 1785.
4 inch turnoff brass barrels with ‘cannon muzzles’ and wedding bands. .45 caliber smoothbore. Engraved brass frame with "MEWIS & CO" in a riband (brass rubbed). Push on steel safety. Box lock flintlock with double touch-holes.
Gunmaker’s proofs. Engraved steel triggerguard (wear to engraving). Dark walnut butt profusely inlaid with silver wire and blossoms, large silver thumb piece. Relief cast and chased buttcap depicting a lion. Action is fine and bores are good. 11 inches overall, A handsome flintlock carriage pistol.
