A Very Good All Original Homogenous Steel Mounted German Wheellock Holster Pistol Circa 1625.
The 17 inch octagonal smoothbore barrel is struck at the breech with two marks, one a winged eagle. 55 caliber. The barrel polished but in fine condition with clear proof marks. Elegant beveled lock plate struck with the maker’s mark and wheel cover secured by two screws. Pan cover with release button functions as it did four centuries ago.
Steel mounts comprising elegant triggerguard, band around butt, thimble and fore-end cap. Lock held by two side nails. Fine walnut fullstock fluted along fore-end and engraved with a circular design opposite the lock.
Overall very good condition with all lock parts original. Lock not tested for function. Steel tipped ramrod may be the original. Bore is fair. 24 and 3/4 inches overall.
This pistol has particularly fine form for a military wheellock pistol and the condition renders it a cut above the usual.
