14 inch barrel, 1 and 1/8th inch bore. The brass barrel with beautifully belled muzzle, octagonal to round, Signed on the top flat “W. PARKER HOLBORN LONDON, London gunmaker’s proofs, finely engraved steel breech tang and tang screw. Double bolted lock of characteristic Parker quality, with push-on safety, signed “W. PARKER”, finely engraved reinforced cock, rainproof ‘tea cup’, roller bearing frizzen.

Full engraved brass furniture, the triggerguard bow decorated with a trophy of arms, and well executed pineapple finial, buttplate engraved with a trophy of arms, side nail engraved. Brass thumb piece beautifully engraved with the Paget sigil and motto “CAESARIS CAESARI” (Render unto Caesar). Beautifully figured deluxe walnut fullstock finely checkered at wrist.

Lord Paget’s blunderbuss retains its original brass tipped ramrod with brass worm. Lord Paget was a most distinguished officer in the British Army, and commanded the cavalry for Sir John Moore, during the Peninsular War. During the Hundred Days Paget led the charge of the heavy cavalry against Comte d’Erlon’s column. At the very end of the battle, a French cannonball took off much of his leg. He was fitted with a special prosthetic cork leg that became known as the Angelsea Leg.

Overall condition is fine with careful use. 30 inches overall. This incredible blunderbuss once used by the Marquess hung in the historic National Trust ancestral home of the Paget’s, Plas Newydd, Angelsea. A unique opportunity to own the blunderbuss of a true hero of the Napoleonic Wars.
