 A Magnificent And Extremely Fine Quality Chiseled And Gilt Hilt French Small Sword Circa 1750. 

31 and 3/4 inch ‘colichmarde’ style blade of very best French workmanship. 3 and 1/4 inch gilded and engraved panels adorn all three sides on the blade near the forte.

Dish guard chiseled in relief with trophies of arms, the borders enhanced with gold inlaid borders all on a richly gilded pounced ground. The two ring finger guard inlaid with gold borders and the base of the D guard hilt chiseled in relief with gold inlaid trophies of arms all on a pounced gold ground. The D guard chiseled in relief with leafy meander inlaid with gold. Silver wire bound wood grip with silver “Turks Heads”.  The pommel is chiseled in relief with gold inlaid trophies of arms all on a pounced gold ground.

This sword is in near pristine, mint condition throughout retaining nearly 100% original gilding showing very little wear. The blade with most of its gold and bright polish with minor staining.

This is a museum worthy small sword and the finest one we have had the pleasure of offering.
