Very Rare Scalloped Edged Blade Northern European Broadsword Tessak Circa 1620

A Very Rare Northern European Broadsword Tessak With Unusually Broad Scalloped Edged Blade Circa 1620 From The 2005 Sotheby’s Auction Of The Arms And Armour Of The Royal House Of Hanover Still Retaining Its Original Sotheby’s Paper Tag And Original Royal House Of Hanover Brass Collection Tag.

27 inch blade with wide shallow single fuller and scalloped edge. A gold inlaid running wolf on left at forte (inlay missing). Heavy tessak style hilt with three bars and serpent central loops. Expanded quillions. Finger loop with double protective rings. Cord wrapped wooden grip (deteriorated but original).

Classic tessak style heavy domed rectangular pommel. The iron patinated but in good entirely original condition throughout. 32 and 1/2 inches overall.

It would be difficult if not impossible to acquire a tessak with a better provenance as this sword has remained in the Royal House of Hanover for 4 centuries. A unique opportunity not to be missed.
