A Good Classic Continental Pierced Cup Rapier With Exceptionally Long Blade Circa 1625.

The stout diamond shaped blade is 38 and 1/2 inches in length. 8 inch double fuller stamped within with lettering. The blade smith’s mark of a fish above an elaborate cross. The hilt of two scrolls conjoined, elaborately pierced with scrolling foliage within a guilloche border. The recurved writhin quillions are ensuite with the D guard. Octagonal leather covered wood grip. The handsome ovoid pommel is finely fluted.

This rapier shows its age but is in generally good original condition throughout. 48 and 1/2 inches overall. The 17th century grandee who wore this sword at his side was averse to close quarters swordplay and this exceptionally long blade would have easily kept his opponent at a considerable distance.
