An Important Civil War Presentation 1860 Cavalry Officer’s Sword With Rare All Brass Scabbard Beautifully Period Engraved “PRESENTED TO Lieut (sic) Col Thomas N. Pace 1st Indiana Cav Vols from Friends of Boonville MAY 1st 1863”.

35 inch long blade etched for 2/3rds of its length with foliage and scrolls. Large US on right and finely rendered eagle with wings spread and “E Pluribus Unum”. The etching visible but blade is spotted. Leather washer is present. Brass Civil Cavalry hilt is clean.

Grip with fine fish skin over wood wrapped in twisted copper wire. Presentation brass scabbard with beautiful honey color patina and remarkably no door pinches. Original carrying chain with fitting of helmeted knight (missing hook).

Colonel Pace had a most distinguished and well documented Civil War service record. He commanded a unit responsible for chasing Colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest. This important Civil War sword is accompanied by an extensive binder containing copies of his service records and exhaustive research detailing the Colonel’s exploits.

If this were not enough to delight the ardent collector of Civil War swords presented to and worn by the gallant colonels of the Union Army Colonel Pace also received a FRY’S TRAVELLING (sic) Companion leather covered flask beautifully inscribed “Col. Thomas N. Pace DEC 25 1864 from your loving wife Mary Elizabeth." The leather with gilt stamped makers brand. The leather in overall fine condition. The pewter cup and glass flask in very fine original condition.

The addition of the Fry’s flask elevates the fine presentation sword into an eminently displayable Civil War Archive memorializing the service life of a gallant Union Army Colonel.
