A Rare And Desirable War of 1812 Period Baltimore Silver Hilt Eagle Head Saber By Ball (Unsigned) With Engraved Motto.

29 inch broad blade with wide fuller below a narrow fuller both extending nearly to the point. The motto engraved on both sides reading: “NO ME SATVES SIN RAISON NO ME EN BAINES SIN HONOR”. (Neither draw me without reason, nor sheath me without honor). The blade patinated, the engraving clear.

Pierced silver hilt of classic Baltimore form, Silver eagle pommel well cast and chased, the eagle showing very little wear with relief fletching distinct. Spiral bound white grip exhibiting rich and striking patination.

A rare and beautiful American silver hilt saber. A similar saber carrying the same motto and hallmarked by Baltimore silversmith John Lunch and carried by Major John Griffith Johnston at Fort McHenry circa 1810 sold at Sotheby’s New York for $26,250.00.
